Commission FAQs

are you accepting commissions?

No. I am not accepting commissions at this time, due to the high volume of projects currently on my schedule. I will update this page when I begin accepting commissions again. Thank you for your interest!

How much will you charge me?

The price of each project varies, but I charge a minimum of 150.00 USD for each commissioned piece, no matter the size.

what contributes to cost?

Each artist’s method for pricing work is different, but I start with the base price of 150.00 USD to cover the cost of my time and the materials I use. I only use archival materials of the highest quality for my commissioned pieces, because I want them to withstand the test of time.

Like many artists, I have spent years and years learning my craft, and the time spent in school, time spent practicing, time spent learning about different materials and their behaviors and interactions, and time spent on administrative things such as this website, social media, taxes, and record keeping are all part of the work. There is no such thing as free time. Any entrepreneurial venture takes a good deal of time to get started, so please understand that artists and creators are working very hard behind the scenes to make their dreams come true, and this is factored in to the price of original work.

What can I expect during the commission PRocess?

After our initial communication, I will provide you with a quote for the estimated price of the work (it is only an estimate), and a timeline for when I will be able to complete it. Then, depending on the project, I will do a mock-up and you can clarify any further specifics for the piece. After an initial deposit, I will begin work on the project, providing you with updates throughout the process. When the work is done, I will send a final invoice and confirmation, and head off to the post office to send the work to you. You must pay the shipping and the final invoice before I will ship the work to you.

Will you frame it for me?

No. I do not provide framing services, but I am happy to create work that is a standard frame size so that you can easily find a frame for it. You can also employ custom framing services. I’ve Been Framed is a personal favorite of mine in the Portland OR area.

How long will it take?

That depends on the project, but I allow at minimum three weeks to make the work. Rushed work will be more expensive.

what is a suitable reference?

If you are selecting a pet portrait or a classical portrait, I require a reference from which to work. This can be a high quality photograph or video. If it is a poor quality reference and I cannot work effectively from it, I may require that you send me a different one, or the commission may be declined.

Will you do lettering?

No. Hand lettering is not a service I provide.
